The National Institute for Microtechnology, IMT-Bucharest, announces the launch of the Net4Air Center of Excellence in environmental monitoring technologies. The event took place on October 12th, 2023, in Sinaia, in the presence of partners and representatives of local and central authorities.

The Net4Air Centre of Excellence aims to be active at national and European level, to develop strategies and practices for new sensors, electronic systems and data analysis techniques for environmental monitoring. The Centre will continuously seek the active engagement of stakeholders, including public authorities, public agencies, government agents, professional associations, companies, SMEs, NGOs and research partners.

Carmen Moldovan, the project coordinator, mentioned: „The Net4Air Centre of Excellence is an enabler of innovation for air monitoring technologies. It will support the exchange of information with major Romanian and European stakeholders with activities in Air monitoring and connected fields, will create strategic partnerships, will raise public awareness and will provide state of the art information about best practices for environment control and protection.”.

Gheorghe Bădăran, vice-mayor of Sinaia, added that „the opportunity to develop strategies and establish practices for new technologies in air monitoring at national level is extremely important, especially if they are initiated through advanced innovation”.

Daniela Dragomir, national contact point for Widening & ERA emphasized the importance of „using nanotechnologies and innovative devices for air monitoring” and saluted the presence of local authorities within the Net4Air Excellence Centre.
The project, coordinated by the National Institute for R&D in Microtechnologies (Romania), has as partners the University College Cork-Tyndall National Institute (Ireland) and Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche-Institute of Chemistry of Condensed Matter and of Technologies for Energy (Italy).


Net4Air is a Coordination and Support Action funded by the European Commission under the Twinning framework. Twinning aims to enhance networking activities between the research institutions of the Widening countries and top-class leading counterparts at EU level, in order to raise the research profile of the institution from the Widening country as well as the research profile of its staff.
